Ableton Over Delay v.1.0 Max for Live Device (.amxd file)

Time That Refuses To Stay Still

Most delays repeat sound. Over Delay lets sound return changed.

It is not built as a clean echo unit with distortion placed after it. Inside, two delay lines interact with each other, feeding energy back across the stereo field while modulation, saturation, filtering, noise, and soft limiting reshape every repeat. Longer delay times become darker and rougher, while higher feedback settings push the device toward unstable drones and self sustaining textures.

Cross Feedback As A Sound Source

At moderate settings, Over Delay behaves like a thick, worn modulation delay. Push the feedback higher, and the repeats begin to feel less like echoes and more like a small machine continuing to speak after the original sound has stopped.

The SELF mode turns the delayed signal itself into a modulation source. Instead of an external LFO simply moving the delay time, the sound inside the feedback loop starts bending its own path. This creates breathing drones, unstable pitch motion, metallic flutter, and dark resonant tails.

From Broken Tape To Feedback Organism

Short delay times can create chorus like width, dirty stereo spread, or broken tape movement. Longer times produce echo structures that gradually lose brightness, collect noise, and distort with each return.

The Drive and MixDist controls add the final layer: warmth, compression, grit, or heavy saturation. Used subtly, Over Delay gives a synth, guitar, vocal, or drum loop a damaged spatial shadow. Used aggressively, it becomes an instrument of its own.

Designed For Experimental Producers

Over Delay is suited for ambient, drone, industrial, noise, experimental techno, cinematic sound design, distorted echo leads, and unstable live processing.

It is especially effective when you do not want a polite delay. It is for moments when the repeat should decay, mutate, darken, swell, and almost escape control.
